borrowing from mo

It’s funny how I was just complaining out loud that my mom never has anything cool to “hand me down.” I’ve always been so envious of people who tell me, “Oh, that vintage Chanel? My mom gave it to me.” or “Oh, that mini skirt is from the 70s from my mom!”

It’s not that my mom doesn’t like to buy “cool things.” She just isn’t a pack rat. I got that personality trait from my dad. She likes to go on weekly cleanings where she throws away everything that she hasn’t used, while my dad still has things from 20 years ago, neatly tucked away in his closet.

If it comes to vintage Dooney & Bourke purses, I’m sure my mom would have some, like that backpack that she has from the 80s that she won’t let me near.

My mom is also all about comfort. For her birthday a few years ago, my husband and I decided to buy these gorgeous Chanel heels. She wore them once for a few minutes, complained about how uncomfortable they were, so they are now sitting in a box in her closet, never seeing the light of day.

So when she let me borrow this top after I got wet bathing Mia after the beach trip, I was so surprised at how much I liked it. I ended up wearing it to a friend’s dinner party, and it’s sitting in my closet right now. I refuse to give it back after I washed it. It’s a pretty versatile and comfortable piece, and I thought it went perfectly with the longer skirt with the thigh high slit. It looks conservative until you walk and the slit shows off 80% of your legs. (It’s thrifted, so there were supposed to be buttons there that I took off to make it more “sexy.”)

Maybe I should check out my mom’s closet again . . .
