Growing up being closer in age to my brother than my sister, I’ve always been somewhat of a tomboy. My first brush with heels (if you don’t count my sister dressing me up like a doll in her clothes & shoes when I was in grade school for pictures) was being forced to wear a pair during my friend’s quincenera (15th bday) in high school. I didn’t know how to shop for heels, and I had to enlist the help of a friend’s older sister.
That was the year that I found out that I wasn’t really a size 8, even though all my sneakers & tennis shoes were size 8s. I was actually a size 7! I had such a hard time walking in those heels, and I vowed to never wear them again — unless I had to for school dances and formal parties.
Fast forward 12 years later, and I own more heels than I do sneakers.
When the wedge sneaker trend first hit the circuit with those Isabel Marants that celebrities wore, I knew I had to have a pair. I started off with a yellow / brown combo because it was the only one with my size. I then found a replica on ebay, and I chose the blue & red color. It wasn’t until recently that I got these black pair.
I think it’s a great way to make a look more casual and still get some help with height instead of wearing flats. In my case, I wore this to my nephew’s birthday dinner party at my parent’s house.
